India Gospel League
The India Gospel League (IGL) raises awareness about the plight of distressed people in impoverished areas of India. Its mission is to encourage involvement in the League's evangelism, discipleship, church planting, education, agricultural assistance, economic empowerment and medical programs throughout India.
Since its inception, child care has been an integral part of the IGL's outreach. The League currently operates 17 children's homes, more than 50 Christian schools and hundreds of daycares in India. Through these programs, IGL helps guide the physical, educational and spiritual growth of children who have no other support system for this kind of development. Approximately one-third of children entering the program are orphans. The other two-thirds have only one parent, or parents who are physically or financially unable to support them.
The IGL strives to teach these children the importance of gaining an education in order to create a happy, healthy and successful adulthood. Understanding that a holistic approach is the best way to ensure these children continue to cultivate a viable future, the IGL reaches out to the entire family by offering child-development and spiritual counseling for parents, pre-natal support for women, and other programming to help families realize economic sustainability. Child sponsorship is the primary mean of support for these children.
How we work with IGL
In 2006, Lives Linked partnered with IGL to build a web-based mail system called eLinkMail that sponsors can use to communicate with their sponsored children. This system allows sponsors and children to communicate much more rapidly than they would through traditional mailing, thus enabling them to develop meaningful
relationships much more quickly.
